Test Prep “Booster” Class
Purpose: Refresher course as a follow-up to review standardized test-taking strategies (particularly for a timed test), to review possible test content and structure, and to build confidence and increase comfort level
2-Session Course Dates and Times:
Thursday, 11/4/21: 3:00-5:15 PM
Friday, 11/5/21: 3:00-5:15 PM
Location: Saint Clement School, 8B Advisory Room
Cost: $75.00
Materials: pens, pencils, paper
Instructor: Donna Terrasi
Details About the Course:
· The course will be a follow-up to the class offered in August but will still be beneficial for students who did not take that class; materials for the course, like its predecessor, will be designed by Mrs. Terrasi.
· The practice tests that students take in the class will all be for the HSPT (which is the admissions test administered by all of the Catholic high schools). However, the strategies discussed are applicable for any test, and the sections reviewed are common to most standardized tests (reading comprehension, language, vocabulary, math concepts, math application/problem-solving).
· Please note that there are no practice tests for the CPS exam specifically (despite what some tutors and test prep programs will tell you), as they don't publish what test they use - rumor has it that they've developed their own. They even have the disclaimer "buyer beware" on the OAE website regarding test prep programs that claim to be designed for their test.
· Feedback from the students who have taken both the HSPT and the CPS entrance exam, is that the HSPT is a bit harder, and prep for the HSPT prepared them for the other.
